Soft preempt is a ISP requested feature (Global Crossing) and clearly the most useful of the features requesting this bit space. There may be other ways to accommodate the needs of draft-ietf-mpls-nodeid-subobject-01.txt, namely a new sub-object type for a IPv4 or IPv6 address that happens to be a router-ID. Curtis
